DOES ANYONE KNOW WHEN AND WHERE THE FIRST TRAIN WAS EVER FILMED?
The Arrival of the Mail Train, (“The Train Pulling into a Station”) …
is a French, short, black ad white silent documentary, filmed, directed and produced by Auguste and Louis Lumiere. The Lumière Brothers were the first to develop the “short film” and gave their first paid public screening of this film on 28 December 1895, at Salon Indien du Grand Café in Paris.
This 50-second film shows the entry of a train pulled by a steam locomotive into the gare de La Ciotat, the train station of this French coastal town.
The train moving is directly towards the camera was said to have terrified spectators at the first screening.
